5 Steps To Find Bed Bugs

Are bed bugs keeping you awake at night? Then, stop suffering and find bed bugs at daytime to get rid of them asap!

Bed bugs are small, flat insects approximately the size of an apple seed and reddish-brown in color. They can be found hiding in cracks or crevices near mattresses, furniture, and carpets. The best way to tell if a house has bedbugs is to have it inspected by a professional bed bug control in Singapore.

It is crucial to check whether or not bed bugs have infested your house. By detecting an infestation early on makes it simpler to eradicate them.

How to find bed bugs during the day?

Step 1: Examine cracks and crevices with a credit card

Bed bugs may hide in crevices as narrow as 2 millimeters (that’s about the size of a pencil eraser). If they’re hidden away in such a narrow area, it will be difficult to spot them with a light.

If this occurs, we recommend sliding a credit card that is soft and flexible through any tiny holes that you are unable to see. You may use an old plastic card, a company card, a playing card, or a sheet of old-fashioned paper fold.

Slowly poke the card through each crack or crevice by the side of your bed. If you there are live bed bugs there, you’ll be able to see them as they seek to flee. Have a vacuum on hand to capture escaping bugs.

Other areas where you can find bed bugs are drawers, bookshelves, cabinets, nightstands, chairs, and tables.

Step 2: Use a flashlight to search the bed and furniture

The most typical place to find bed bugs is in the area closest to the bed. Focus your search on the surface of your bed, as these are the places where bed bugs are most frequently found.

With a flashlight in hand, check all the tiny crevices, nooks, and seams throughout your bed. If you encounter bed bugs, they’re likely hiding in spaces you can’t easily see. Using a flashlight can confirm their presence and help you successfully get rid of bed bugs.

Turning over and rearranging your bedding and bed will make it easier for you to see bed bugs as they scuttle off.

  • For starters, start by removing the bed and mattress covers and pillowcases from your bedding. As part of your bed search, check for any blood stains or fecal marks (tiny black dots).
  • After the sheets are through security checking, place them in plastic bags and wash them later if you find any signs of bed bugs.
  • Work your way through the folds and seams of your mattress as you look for each of bed bugs, eggs, shell casings, and fecal stains.
  • Watch carefully for slight indications of bed bugs at the edges and seams of your mattress. Flip the mattress over carefully to make sure you examine it from top to bottom.
  • Finally, check out your bedframe and box spring. If the surface of your bed is touching a wall, move it a few inches from your headboard and check behind it.

Step 3: Declutter your home

Bed bugs aren’t attracted to disorganized places. However, if your home is in disarray, it makes it difficult for you to locate them.

Bed bugs can hide in clothes boxes, books, children’s toys, and clothing. To keep them away from your possessions, then you should organize them.

However, don’t move any items out of the room until you’ve thoroughly searched them. This is to avoid transferring bed bugs to infest a different room. Instead, carefully go through your items one-by-one to check for bed bugs and put them in sealed plastic bags.

As you are decluttering the room, ensure lights are kept on and open curtains to let sunlight in. This is to make certain that you do not overlook bed bugs scattering about as hiding places are disturbed. Bed bug creatures are light-sensitive (prone to losing their whereabouts). They will be compelled to hastily seek safety in dark locations if they are by chance uncovered in the light of day.

Step 4: Set bed bug traps

If you failed to find bed bugs after looking thoroughly, it doesn’t mean you are already safe of their threat. It’s probable that you may miss a few (or a lot of) possible bed bug hiding places during your search.

The next thing to do is to set bed bug traps. It is a relatively inexpensive way to determine and confirm if there are bed bugs in your home. By setting traps at night, you’ll have a better likelihood of finding bed bugs during the day.

There are 5 types of bed bug traps including:

  • Bed Bug Interceptors
  • Glue Traps
  • CO2 Bed Bug Monitors
  • Pheromone Traps (Lures)
  • Volcano Bed Bug Detector

The trap is effective at finding bed bugs but may take some time to do so. Bed bugs must feed every 5 to 10 days, so do not expect results right away.

Step 5: Schedule a canine bed bug inspection

A canine bed bug inspection is the fastest and most reliable way to discovering if you have bed bugs. According to a study, trained dogs can 98% locate live bed bugs and can recognize bed bug scent at 100%.

Bed bug dogs can quickly identify bed bugs and their eggs, whereas insect traps can require from one to two weeks to confirm their presence. This saves you time and comfort while dealing with an infestation earlier from its start.
