How To Get Rid Of Bedroom Pests

Many types of pests can invade your home. But the ones that can be the most annoying and difficult to get rid of are those that live in your bedroom. Bed bugs, cockroach, and spiders can all make your life a nightmare if they take up residence in the room you sleep in.

When you are trying to go to sleep, the last thing you want to be doing is counting bugs rather than sheep. Though bed bugs are the most notorious bedroom insect, other pests such as fleas can also be found between the sheets. But don’t worry, there are ways to get rid of these bedroom pests and restore peace and tranquility to your sanctuary.

5 common bedrooms pests

1. Ants

Ants enjoy sugary treats and crumbs, not solely in or close to your kitchen, but in the bedroom as well. They can be harmless unless they are fire ants or carpenter ants. But if you encounter a sizable number of them in your sleeping area, you won’t be able to sleep comfortably. Ant control would help get rid of these pests.

2. Bed bugs

Bed bugs are the most common pests that hide in bedrooms, mattresses, and other sleeping areas. They are found almost everywhere. From homes and businesses to apartment buildings, hospitals, and dormitories.

These bugs are exceptional hitchhikers. They can reach several areas by taking rides in suitcases, clothing, books, and other materials. After reaching their destination, the insects typically hide in bedrooms.

They like to hide in your upholstery, bed linens, mattresses, box springs, bed frame, and headboard. But they can also latch in your furniture, in stuffed animals, with laundry, behind electrical sockets, and in other places. Their bites will lead to itchiness, rashes, and allergic reactions. Only professional bed bug control can fully stop a bed bug infestation.

3. Cockroaches

Cockroaches contaminate food, worsen asthma symptoms, spread disease, and cause itching. A single female German cockroach may lay roughly 30 thousand eggs in a year.

They prefer dirty clothes, bags, and junk piles to conceal in. They can be anywhere as long as crumbs and leftover food are lying around. Cockroach control when done by a professional can eradicate these pests effectively.

4. Fleas

These bedroom pests feed on any warm-blooded creature, be it human or animal. They will likely feed on you or members of your household if no other nourishment source is nearby.

Adult fleas can jump onto the back of your pets and can become infested with them. They can jump as high as eight or ten inches to ride on running pet dogs and other animals. Or on people’s pant legs when they walk near them.

5. Spiders

Many houses have spiders, but they’re usually harmless. Spiders in your house help control other insect populations but they can draw other predators too.  Look for them near your bed in closets, behind your furniture, in quiet spaces, or corners.

Why do pests are drawn to the bedroom?

The insects inhabiting the bed aren’t interested in the quality of the mattress but instead are drawn to the human or pet lying in the bed. The bedroom environment is well suited to bugs, as it provides them with a food source and a hiding place.

How to keep pests away from the bedroom?

There are a few tips to prevent bed bugs, fleas, and other pests from getting to your bedroom.

When traveling, you should inspect the entire hotel room of bedbugs before unpacking. Implement measures to avoid taking home hitchhiking pests with you.

Establish some flea control procedures at home. Keep pets bathed and on leashes, and avoid using flea killers indoors. Finish all outdoor runs with a flea check before bringing them inside. By keeping your outdoor pets safe, you can prevent them from coming into your home to harbor fleas.

Clear away clutter to minimize possible hiding spots for pests and spiders. Wash and dry sheets using the hottest temperature allowed for the fabrics. Thoroughly inspect any second-hand furnishings before bringing them inside.

Why get rid of bedroom pests?

Bed bugs, though known not to be transmitters of any particular diseases, can cause red, itchy inflammations from the bites they cause. Fleas, the most frequent transmitter of the bubonic plague, are also carriers of murine typhus. They can transmit this disease to humans and cause fur loss and anemia in pets.
